With Post University Online, you can earn your Master of Science in Human Services part-time in as little as 18 months. MS in Human Services courses are offered six times per year in accelerated eight-week modules conveniently online or during evenings and weekends at our Waterbury, Connecticut location.

Post University's Master of Science in Human Services with a concentration in Alcohol & Drug Counseling is designed to meet the educational needs of individuals who seek to advance their skills and career options or seek employment in this growing field.

MSHSV students can become licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselors by completing the Master of Human Services degree program with an Alcohol & Drug Counseling concentration and fulfilling all state requirements as outlined here.

The objectives of the program are to provide:

  • An understanding of the complex issues regarding alcohol and drug addiction within American society on both a micro and macro level including multicultural issues and ethical considerations.
  • Background on the biological, psychological, and sociological effects either short and/or long term use of substances has on the individual, family system, community, or society.
  • A comprehensive view of the most current assessment, diagnosis, and treatment modalities in the field of addictions including individual, group, self-help, and/or psychopharmacology methods.
  • Access to an array of educational experiences that help you meet the minimum educational requirements for licensure or certification specified by the state of Connecticut.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION MASTER OF HUMAN SERVICES DEGREE PROGRAM

  • Post University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and licensed and accredited by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education.
  • You are not required to complete the GRE test to enter the program.  We look for students with work experience, a good undergraduate background, and an ambition to learn and develop their Human Services skills.
  • Courses are offered every eight weeks, six times a year – so, you can start immediately.
  • Our faculty not only have advanced degrees, but extensive and relevant experience in the areas they teach.  
  • All students are assigned academic advisors who support and guide them through their entire degree program.
