What is Environmental Science/Studies?

Enviromental Studies Science 1

Environmental scientists look at pollution and other environmental problems and come up with solutions. They figure out what is in the air, water and soil to make sure that the environment is safe. They also give advice on how to clean the environment.

The Environmental Science/Studies (ENSC) major was introduced to provide students with the opportunity to earn a science degree that spans a variety of disciplines that relate to the natural environment. This program is a composite science compiled of courses across a broad spectrum including: biology, chemistry, physics, ecology, botany, soil science, policy, sustainable development and ethics. Regardless of the area a graduate decides to pursue, they will walk away with competitive skills and completely prepared if they decide to attend graduate school.

However, this degree can lead toward various career areas such as environmental law, environmental policy, conservation or environmental education, among others. Many who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science/Studies have accepted positions with government environmental agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency or Department of Environmental Conservation; environmental consulting firms, environmental research organizations and nonprofit organizations at county, state and federal levels.

A degree in environmental science/studies can lead to many different career paths. A few possible career paths are provided in the list below, but graduates are not limited to these job titles.
