These professionals may also gather information on competitors, prices, sales and methods of marketing and distribution. In many instances, they also develop pricing strategies with the goal of maximizing the firm's profits or share of the market while ensuring the firm's customers are satisfied.

A bachelor's degree in marketing prepares one for positions in the fields of product planning, marketing research, distribution, advertising, sales promotion, packaging, customer relations and direct marketing.
