Teaching Background:
Solivan currently teaches Intro to Computers at Post University and Intro to Software Applications at the local Community College since August of 2011. Solivan has a passion for teaching software application techniques while incorporating the use of Blackboard environments such as Blackboard Vista and Learn 9. Solivan integrates the use of real life work projects, videos and hands on assignments in her classrooms. In the past 2 years, Solivan has worked with a non-governmental organization developing online staff training modules while integrating different learning techniques enhancing software applications.
Professional Background:
Solivan has spent her professional career in different corporate, non-profit and educational arenas. Solivan has worked at Harvard University as an Auditor and systems trainer; a Social Worker Supervisor for two Connecticut non-profit agencies working with adults with dual diagnosis along with children and families. Solivan was responsible for running a respite facility ensuring that clients secured housing and wrap around services for their mental health issues, as well as, provided staff/clients training in all facets such as: managing your finances, time management, medication management, communicating with providers, cooking and cleaning trainings, etc. Solivan worked collaboratively with DCF securing foster care homes for children removed from their homes due to all types of negligence. Solivan has worked in developing bilingual foster training for staff/clients/families as needed in keeping ensuring that all parties were maintained up to date with state regulations, requirements and communicating best practices.
Solivan has been a guest speaker several times at State agencies sharing on topics such as Diversity in current work environments and understanding clients. Solivan has traveled extensively working for Aramark in the start up of their computerized Resource Centers in hospitals and colleges/universities on the East Coast; conducting staff assessments, evaluations and job training.
Solivan continues to work as a volunteer with Save the Children (NGO) in the development of online training modules, as well as, being a Beta Tester for Articulate in their new software application Storyline. This past April 2012, Solivan along with partner Claude Abbott, were the Finalist for the LINGO's Global Giveback Competition 3 at the Learning Solutions Conference in Orlando, Florida; where their involvement in the instructional design of the Becoming One module was recognized.
