Teaching Background

Ms. Bigelow has taught international business courses at Central Connecticut State University, Saint Joseph's College, and Post University since 2001. In addition, she is presently an adjunct faculty member in the CCSU Department of Finance, where she teaches Managerial Finance occasionally.

Professional Background:

Ms. Lisa Marie Bigelow is currently Associate Director of the Center for International Education at Central Connecticut State University, where she has been employed in various capacities connected to the University's international program since 1987. She has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean, and recently visited the Middle East for the first time. She has facilitated U.S. government sponsored technical assistance programs in Poland, China, and Jamaica, and organized and participated as a trainer in U.S. based training programs for foreign nationals from throughout the world.

Teaching Philosophy

Ms. Bigelow's teaching philosophy is grounded in Bandura's social learning theories (i.e., that people learn from one another, via observation, imitation, and modeling). She strives to be empathetic to students' concerns and focused on student success and learning outcomes at all times. She believes strongly that each student enrolled in a course has as much to teach as they have to learn. She is committed to making each course an enjoyable and productive learning experience, by sparking the intellectually curiosity of all students and fostering an academic community in which everyone is comfortable sharing their views and opinions.

Personal Background

Ms. Bigelow enjoys traveling internationally for professional and personal reasons, gardening, and watersports, including kayaking.

Research/Academic Interests

Ms. Bigelow's current research interests center around the use of blended courses in the traditional on-ground classroom and the development of student-centered professional development programs for special populations.

Personal Background:

Dr. Baruth enjoys outdoors activities (hiking, running, etc.), reading, sightseeing, traveling, and spending time with family.

Dr. Baruth’s research interests include resilience, protective factors, addictions, multicultural issues, and positive psychology.
