The University Writing Center
Post University is dedicated to developing and improving the written communication skills of all our students. The University Writing Center supports this dedication by working with students and staff to improve their writing and presentation skills.
Post University requires writing across all phases of each student's curriculum. This means that students are expected to complete at least one writing assignment for each class they take. The Writing Center is an active participant in this curricular requirement.
At the Center, students can work one-on-one with a writing coach. Writing coaches help students learn to:
- Brainstorm and generate ideas for writing;
- Understand the writing process and develop writing strategies that work;
- Identify ways to improve writing and think clearly;
- Revise, edit and proofread their own writing;
- Understand and use grammar correctly;
- Prepare a research paper;
- Properly cite sources and avoid plagiarism;
- Use styles and tones of writing appropriately;
- Develop and deliver PowerPoint and other presentations.
Online and Regional Location Students
Online and branch-site students can receive all of the services listed above through e-mail consultations. E-mail coaching provides an opportunity for our distance students to improve their writing skills with experienced professional staff. The writing center does not provide editing or proofreading, but overall content-level comments, and specific sentence-level comments within the text of the paper. We also provide links to websites that allow students to acquire the writing skills they need.
