What our students say

Barbara Almeida

Barbara Almeida Why did you choose Post University?

It was closer to my home in America. I'm an international student from Brazil and my guardians live in Waterbury. Post also was the school that offered me the most money out of all the 11 schools where I applied. Post also had a very good environmental Sciences program, and the soccer coach called me and asked me to play on the team. It all just seemed right.

Why did you decide to major in Environmental Science?

I'm a tree-hugger! It's the Brazilian side of me. My grandparents have farms and I just love nature. The current global warming issues really worry me. The environmental impact of global warming is increasing tremendously. However, I feel that one person can make a difference. You never know, I may be the one person to make this difference.

What has been your experience so far at Post?

It's been great! I really like the student-to-teacher ratio. Classes are the perfect size for me. I like to be a student and not a number in a classroom and at Post I'm able to be that. I'm also glad to combine being a student and being an athlete. And I'm able to work at the school. I can also be involved in the clubs and take on leadership roles. I think Post allows any student who wants to be involved the opportunity to do so.

Did you think Post is affordable and will provide a good return on your investment?

Definitely. At first it may seem expensive, as any other university, but it's really not. At Post they give you many opportunities to apply for scholarships. As an international student, I found that other schools were much more expensive. In the long run, I see it being a great investment.

What do you like best about attending Post University?

The fact that I'm able to be so involved. The more I get involved, the more I get motivated. Now that I live on campus, I'm doing a lot better because there's so much to do. I was a commuter at first, but now I can afford to live on campus because of my Peer Educator job.

What one thing about your education do you think will help you get a job in the career of your choice when you graduate?

I speak three languages and I think that will help me. And the fact that I enjoy what I'm doing so much will make my job seem like a hobby. I believe that if you do what you truly enjoy then you will definitely succeed.

How did it feel to be named New Student of the Year?

I was really happy and surprised, especially because there were so many nominees. My parents were really proud. Lastly, I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped me along the way.

Would you recommend Post to your friends?

Oh yeah, definitely. My brother's coming here next semester. I told him Post would be perfect for him. Post has much to offer. If you're willing to work hard, you're going to benefit from it.
