Kansas Accounting Requirements

Examination candidates must have completed 150 semester (225 quarter) hours;

  • a baccalaureate or graduate degree from a Board-recognized college or university in post-secondary education to include:

  • 30 semester (45 quarter) hours in accounting theory and practice including: financial accounting, managerial accounting (beyond the introductory level), auditing, income tax, accounting information systems (beyond an introductory computer course); and

  • 42 semester (63 quarter) hours in business and general education courses including: macro- and micro-economics plus one upper division economics course, at least two courses in legal aspects of business or business law, college algebra in higher level course, statistics and probability theory, computer systems and applications, finance, management and administration, marketing, production, operations research, or applications of quantitative techniques to business problems; and

  • 11 semester (16.5 quarter) hours in written and oral communications.


Educational requirements must be met at the time of application.

Candidates with foreign educational credentials must have credentials evaluated by any member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) (www.naces.org). The evaluation of a foreign transcript must be a course by course comparison to Kansas requirements.
