Professional Background

Meade is a former high school teacher, athletic director and basketball coach. He has also coached men’s basketball at Lehman College (NCAA Division III) and at The University of New Haven and Southern Connecticut State University (NCAA Division II).  Joe was the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies for the School of Business at UNH for six years and the District Manager in Greater New Haven for Junior Achievement of Southwest Connecticut for three years. He was recently named as the Northeast Regional College Scout for the NBA’s Utah Jazz.

Teaching Philosophy

Meade believes that students learn best through experience.  He designs his courses to mix theory with practical learning to afford every student the opportunity to experience firsthand some of the skills and practices necessary to be successful in the workplace.

Professional and community activities

Meade has been involved in a number of civic and volunteer organizations in his hometown of Milford, Connecticut.  He was Vice president for Milford’s Promise for two years and has served on the Board of directors for The Literacy Center of Milford in 2011. He has also been a volunteer basketball coach for the Milford recreation department’s Instructional League for two years.

Awards

Meade was selected as the “CUNY Conference Coach of the Year” in 1995 while working as the Men’s Basketball Coach at Lehman College.  He was also recognized for his work in the community, receiving the Community Service Award by the Milford Public Schools in 2008. Meade was named “A Rising Star” by Business New Haven for his accomplishments while working for Junior Achievement in 2007. 

Personal Background

Joe is a retired New York City Transit Police Officer.  He is an avid golfer and loves riding his bicycle with his family around the shores of Milford.  He also enjoys travelling and kayaking in the Long Island Sound. Joe is the director of Hoopskills Basketball, a training program designed to teach youth the skills and strategies of using basketball as a vehicle to success.

Research/Academic Interests

Meade combines his love of sport and his police background to examine security at sporting events.  He has focused much of his attention to changes in event security in the post 9/11 period.
