Teaching Background:

Dr. Corby is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Post University. Prior to joining the faculty at Post University, she was an adjunct professor of Psychology at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, The College of New Rochelle in New York, and Naugatuck Valley Community College in Connecticut.

Professional Background:

Dr. Corby's previous experience includes: test administration and interpretation of a variety of intelligence tests and conducting developmental assessments in an early childhood therapeutic preschool; facilitator for a parenting skills group; researcher for a documentary film project on children and toys; and a researcher for Johnson & Johnson, Inc. – Child Growth & Development Corp. researching developmental issues for parenting newsletter and the parenting skills book, From Baby to Toddler: The Essential Month-By-Month Guide to Your Child's First Two Years (John Fisher, Ed.). Her interest in women's issues lead her to serve as a consultant for a feature newspaper article on domestic violence in the suburbs, to testify before the Connecticut State Legislature resulting in the introduction of a bill subsequently integrated into the State's comprehensive Domestic Violence Bill, and to participate as a political cable television program panelist with New York State Assemblywoman Audrey Hochberg and Monica Getz, President of The National Coalition for Family Justice, to increase public awareness and support for proposed legislation to revise Domestic Relations Law.

Teaching Philosophy:

Dr. Corby's teaching philosophy can be summed up in the words of the German poet and novelist, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe: “Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and you help them to become what they are capable of being.”

Research/Academic Interests:

Research interests: Social constructions of gender; sexual harassment and the objectification of females; images of girls and women on television; women in society; religion and psychology; sensation and perception; human development across the lifespan/Developmental Psychology, cognitive development.
