Biography

Academic Background:

Teaching Background:

Currently the Academic Program Manager for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and the English Language Institute (ELI), Ruby is responsible for the TESOL concentration of the M.Ed. graduate program, and for the ESL courses of the undergraduate program.

Ruby previously taught English, ESL, and Business Management in various colleges and universities in Connecticut, Nebraska, Missouri, and California. She was nominated for the Joan Goostree Stevens Excellence in Teaching Award at Fontbonne University in 2004.

Ruby previously served as Course Director for English and Speech at the Philippine Military Academy, and received the Dean’s commendation for services rendered as course director from 1989-1990. As editor of the command information bulletin Fort Sentinel, she received the Superintendent’s commendation for coverage of the July 1990 earthquake that devastated the immediate areas.


Professional Background:

Currently a contributing writer for the New Fairfield Citizen News, Ruby has worked as editor for various school and professional organization publications.

She served as trade assistant to the Commercial Counselor of the Philippine Embassy Trade Office in Cologne, Germany, and was responsible for marketing trade fair participation of Philippine business concerns in various international trade fairs in Germany including the Anuga Food Fair in Cologne, the CPD Fashion Fair in Duesseldorf, and the Philippines as host country in the 1997 Hannover Industrial Fair.

She worked for the Far Eastern Economic Review in Hong Kong, researching a strategic marketing strategy for the Review and conducting interviews with various news magazines and corporate leaders in Hong Kong.


Professional Memberships/Awards:

A member of Toastmasters International, the worldwide communication and leadership organization, Ruby achieved Distinguished Toastmaster designation in 2011 and was selectged Area Governor of the Year for 2010-2011.

As coach of the Academic Decathlon team of New Fairfield High School, Ruby successfully coached a brand new team to a 2nd place finish at CT state in 2009, a 1st place finish at Conn. state, National Rookie Team of the Year at national finals in 2010, and a 3rd place at Conn. state in 2011 and 2012.

Ruby is a member of MENSA.
