Teaching Background:

Dr. Rivard is an Academic Program Manager of the Mathematics Department and Professor of Mathematics at Post University. Prior to joining the Post University faculty, she taught high school mathematics for over 20 years beginning with part-time work in Region 16, Wolcott, Cheshire, and at WF Kaynor RVTS, and Cheshire Academy.  Dr. Rivard taught full-time at Seymour High School, Bristol Eastern High School, and the CREC Public Safety Academy.  While in Seymour, she coached the Mathematics Team and while at Bristol Eastern, she was the Coordinator of the Afternoon High School Program, Dean of Students, the Unified Sports Coach and National Honor Society Advisor, in addition to many other advisory positions. She was the Mathematics Department Chairperson, House Leader and member of the Vision and Leadership Committee at PSA.

Professional Background:

Dr. Rivard earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education, with a minor in Business Studies and concentration in the Development of Western Civilization from Providence College. She earned her Master of Science degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education, and her 6th Year Professional Degree in Educational Leadership, from Southern Connecticut State University. She holds Connecticut State Certification Administration and Supervision and Teaching certificates in Mathematics, Business, History & Social Studies, and Adult Education. Dr. Rivard earned a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She is very interested in volunteerism, school pride, school law, non-traditional online education and effective teaching methodologies. Her teaching experience includes working with students of all ability levels, although she specializes in helping struggling students meet with success. She is currently working with some of the top publishing companies to enhance students’ on campus and online classroom experiences with various modes of computer adaptive technology.

Teaching Philosophy:

Dr. Rivard’s educational philosophy stems from her belief that “every student is capable of learning, regardless of the pace and the extent at which it happens.  It is our job as educators to create an environment in which each student can achieve to his or her highest potential and to provide the necessary skills for each student to succeed as a viable and productive member of society.”

Civic Involvement/Personal Interests:

Dr. Rivard is an active member of the community and has been honored by the American Cancer Society for her leadership and dedication as a volunteer and in her role as a 5-year Event Chair for the Relay for Life of Bristol.  She regularly participates in service activities associated with numerous organizations such as the Bristol Boys and Girls Club, United Way, Main Street Foundation, Cure-Chief Foundation, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Lions Club, Easter Seals, the Salvation Army, Companion Pet Rescue and Transport, and OpSail2012. She is a competitive indoor and beach volleyball player, and enjoys kayaking, hiking, reading and spending time with her two Toy Fox Terriers, Max and Sami. She will begin working with the Post University Women’s Volleyball team as an Assistant Coach for the 2012 season.
