Former head of corporate training and employee development in four firms.
Don has spent the last 35 years in the area of development of human capital.¬† As a member of the University of Michigan‚Äôs Executive Education operation, he was responsible for designing and delivering leadership programs for multinational as well as domestic organizations.¬† While at Michigan, he worked with faculty such as Noel Tichy, Dave Ulrich, Bob Quinn and Kim Cameron to deliver the latest in research-based programs to executive audiences.¬† In addition to his experience at the University of Michigan, Don has worked in the high tech and automotive industries where he held senior Human Resource positions for over 20 years.
Don has extensive experience in bringing about global implementation to key people development systems within companies.¬† Recently he completed the design of a company-wide talent management system which integrated the firm‚Äôs approach to identifying, assessing and developing its key performers with the firm‚Äôs reward system and succession management.¬†¬†
Over his work career, Don has worked to provide an integrated approach to human resources, using organization development, compensation, HR information systems, performance management as well as continuous improvement systems to address the business needs of the firm while insuring the ongoing development of the firm‚Äôs human capital.Don is particularly interested in the importance of developing truly global systems within companies to address the growing influence of the world marketplace.¬†¬† Managing the effects of global cultures on an organization‚Äôs systems is a key consideration to the long term health of that organization and its people resources.
Don is an advocate of applying concepts to the real world.¬† He believes that there should be a strong correlation between what we teach in class and what the better practices are in the environments in which our students work.¬† Said another way, through our teaching here at Post, we should be helping both our students and their organizations prosper.
Don has had the opportunity to work in a variety of setting: Academia, Information Technology; Defense; Manufacturing; Insurance and Consulting.¬† This has offered him a unique view about applying broad organizational concepts across many types of organizations.¬† It has not, however, improved his golf game.
