Jennifer WojcikBiography

Academic Background:

  • Master of Music in Education, Boston University 2007
  • Bachelor of Music, Flute Performance, St. Vincent College 1996
  • Masters focus: Using elements of "backwards design" to create student-centered curricula for secondary and post-secondary choral music programs.

Teaching and Professional Background:

  • Current Position at Post University: Associate Faculty of Education
  • Boston University: Online Course Facilitator in Curriculum Design and Development
  • The Gunnery: Performing Arts Department Chair, and Director of the Music and Theater Programs.

Teaching Philosophy:

“As a teacher, it is of utmost important for me to transfer upon my students my enthusiasm for learning.  I reinforce the development of a variety of learning strategies, through both explanation and demonstration, allowing students to recognize that learning is a life-ling process.  This can only be taught according to the students’ learning styles.  It is the role of the teacher to teach in a way that the student understands.  My approach is varied, flexible and individual and I believe that students often learn more from attempting than from succeeding.  My primary objective has been to teach students how to think for themselves.  Creating a positive learning community in which students can experience continual education and personal growth is vital in both the “brick and mortar” and online classroom.  I value the process of learning, not just the outcome.”

Personal Background:

When Jennifer Wojcik is not teaching, she can often be found performing as a vocalist or flutist throughout the State of Connecticut.  She also plays the piano and the guitar. She composes original music. She is married and has a toddler daughter.

Research/Academic Interests:

Jennifer is interested in “place-based” education—the idea that a community’s culture, history, environment, literature, economy, art and music are paramount to student learning.  By using backward design, beginning with goals, and then later establishing a learning plan, teachers can focus on aiding students in making those connections within their communities.  These connections can be broadened to place education within the context of an increasingly global and technological world.
