Biography

Academic Background:

• Bates College – Bachelors Degree
• Smith College – Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work
• Also studied at Manchester College, Oxford England

Teaching Background:

Professor Antel currently teaches at Post University as an Associate Faculty member in the Masters in Human Services program.  She teaches both on-line and on-ground.

Professor Antel has been teaching Post University’s  MSHSV courses since 2008.  She teaches Family Systems Theory, Theories of Counseling, Ethics and Diversity, and Group Therapy. She is also a reader for the 599 Capstone Course and a practicum supervisor.

Teaching Philosophy:

Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.”  Professor Antel believes that is particularly important in the field of human services.  As human service professionals, we need to be committed to continuous inter- and intra-personal learning.   Professor Antel believes that learning and growth occurs optimally when there is a balance of challenge and non-judgment.  Learning should be fun and life-changing. 

Professsional Background:

Prior to receiving her clinical degree, Professor Antel co-founded a management consulting firm which provided guidance regarding the integration of process, technology, and human interaction by applying systems theory and human-oriented approaches to increase creativity, collaboration, and productivity. During this time, she studied with Peter Senge and other leaders dedicated to creating learning organizations.

During her graduate work, her practicum placements included outpatient, inpatient, crisis intervention, partial hospitalization, and drug and alcohol settings. Professor Antel provided individual, couples, family, and group therapy at the aforementioned placements and during her tenure at Family Services of Greater Waterbury.  She also supervised MSW students in their placements at FSGW. 

She has been the Director of the Post University Counseling Center since 2001, providing counseling services to full-time undergraduate students, consultation to university personnel, psycho-educational programming, policy development, and supervision of Center clinicians.  She also supervised MHSV practicum students which resulted in the creation of Peer Health Educator and a Safe Space programs.  Professor Antel also has a private practice providing traditional therapy and Wave Work, a psycho-spiritual meditative therapy.  She is also on the Board of Directors of the Wave Work Fellowship. 

Personal Background:

Professor Antel lives in Connecticut with her family.  She enjoys outdoor activities, such as biking, riding horses, skiing, and gardening.  She is also enjoying reading and cooking.
