Hear what students say about their experience at Post University

Mary Grace Leone

Why did you choose Post University?

I had attended traditional night classes for several years to earn my B.S. in Accounting at another area school. After doing some research, I discovered Post and realized that they were offering what I needed to complete my degree at a quicker pace, so I ended up finishing my undergrad degree there.

At first I was a little skeptical about completing a degree online, but I have to say it was a great experience. It was a bit odd for me at first; however I was impressed with the amount of time the online courses allowed for class discussions. In a traditional class students don't typically get much opportunity to have lengthy discussions because the instructor has so much to cover all in one night per week. A real benefit of the online discussion boards is that the conversations could continue all week long.

hen I finished the undergrad program, the Post MBA hadn't been announced. I took one MBA course at another school, but wasn't very impressed. When Post introduced its program, I immediately transferred. That was an easy decision. The course design and delivery at the other school was not as well orchestrated as it had been at Post, and I'd been happy with the undergrad experience, so naturally my decision made sense to me.

Why did you decide to pursue your MBA while working full-time?

I knew that if I wanted to earn the MBA, I had to do it while I was working full time. I couldn't take a year or two off. The purpose of pursuing the MBA was to ensure career advancement; leaving work would not have aligned with that plan at all.

Do you think Post will provide a good return on your investment?

Absolutely. I gained so much more from the program than I initially expected. I could not be more pleased with the outcome of the program, and am impressed with the quality of the applicable knowledge I have gained.

Did the Post program exceed your expectations?

By far. I immediately noticed that the concentrations were different than other schools. I chose the corporate innovation track, and I felt like the content was relevant to my current career path.

How has the MBA program impacted your career or you personally?

I have a great sense of accomplishment. Here at Sikorsky many to most seem to have an MBA, and now I feel like I'm up to par with my peers. I earned my Bachelor's degree 20 years after I had started; that alone provided a great sense of accomplishment to me personally, and then to earn the MBA was an even greater personal victory. Reaching that goal was somewhat unexpected and I wouldn't have been able to do it without Post's program.

What one thing about the Post MBA program has had the greatest influence on your professional life?

The program has helped me to think and consider all situations from new and different perspectives. Typically I believe people develop a fixed thinking pattern. The program enabled me to broaden my own thought processes. Because of that, I feel more enlightened about the workplace relative to understanding how and why things happen as they do. I also feel that I have developed into a more solid contributor.

Were you able to immediately apply what you were learning in the work world?

I'm glad you asked that. That was probably the most amazing part of the experience. When I began the program, I considered the knowledge I might gain as I completed the program. I hadn't really considered that I'd be applying it right away, but I did. That was an indicator that the course content was both practical and current.

Was there any one concept or discussion that changed the way you view the world/workplace?

There have been several changes. There are so many facets to the program it would be impossible to pinpoint just one.

What kinds of connections did you make with your professors and peers?

I'd say I made a lot of connections with my peers. It was nice to keep “seeing” a lot of the same people in each class, and we developed some good friendships. I felt a great sense of camaraderie. I don't think I've ever learned more from any instructor in my lifetime than I have from Don Mroz. He led me out of my comfort zone many times, but I soon learned that this was alright, since that is exactly where the greatest learning occurs.

What advice would you give someone who wants to pursue an online MBA program?

I would probably advise a prospective student to recognize that there is a real commitment involved with the program. Don't for a minute think that there won't be much time and effort required. I learned a lot about time management. I prepared a fresh game plan for each course. However, the benefits far outweigh the sacrifices.

Would you recommend Post's Online MBA Degree Program to your friends/colleagues?

Without any hesitation. I found the content of the program to be both challenging and practical. It was very well designed.
